Looking for a quick trip to the Yucatan next month. Would like to do reef and cenotes with my wife. Any recomendations for resorts/diveoperators?
She requires a nice beach and conveient diving.
I prefer to be off the beaten track and close to the best diving.
Any opinions or suggestion?
I am leaning towards Akumal.....

I was there last Feb. and did some great, great diving! I was looking to do some cenote diving and what I got was basically a private dive master that took me and my buddy for a day exploring some of the most beautiful cenotes in the area.

The name of the shop is Aqua Exploration and the owner's name is Fred Devos. Fred Picked us up at the hotel, and took us to some of the "less visited" spots. His price was very reasonable. the website is www.aquaexploration.com

Fred is Canadian, from South West Ontario. great guy! and knows the area very well!

Have a great trip and let me know how it goes!!

Hey this guy looks pretty good! I'm going to Puerto Adventuras in May. Maybe I'll use him for cenote and ProDive Mexico for boat dives.

All great suggestions. I think i will hire a guide for the cenotes, I am logging online to research all of your suggestions. Thanks!

For a nice beach and conveient diving it is tough to beat Akumal and the Akumal Dive shop. DM Beto has been with them for 19 years. (Beto was mayor of the Akumal Pubelo just the other side of the road...go there for take out roast chicken!!!) They have locker for your gear and it is close...50 yards to the beach resturant. Don't expect Cozumel type diving along the mainland coast however, do expect ok dives and turtles. http://www.akumal.com/index.html

Thanks Mr Deep for the Cenote op ref...I will give Fred a call when I head to the Yucatan this summer!

If you want conveient Cenote diving try Hidden Worlds...http://hiddenworlds.com.mx/
If you can get past the tourist-ish marketing, you will find the dives are good. they are 10 minutes south of Akumal and the whole setup is easy...don't forget your bug repellant! Best to call ahead and then just show up at their site.

For other cenote info try...www.cenoteangelita.com/cenote_info.htm

Enjoy...
