Riviera Maya - Dressel Divers

Just returned from a week of diving with Dressel Divers at the Barceló Maya resort in Riviera Maya, Mexico. Unbelievably fabulous dive shop! Staff always double checks EVERYONE -- even the AOW divers -- before entry, and there is always a DM in the water with every group (two with the beginners).

This is the dive shop listed on Trip Advisor as "Dressel Divers - Puerto Aventuras".

DMs check everyone's air about every 10-15 minutes, and they rally the group according to the conservative diver (works fine by me). Average dives are 40-70 feet, and run about 45 minutes.

Just my 2-cents, but I would dive with them again in a heartbeat.

Dressel are a great operation but they aren't for everyone. They have a maximum depth limit of 100' regardless of experience or certification and they are very hands on. If you are just getting started or you tend to dive infrequently or on vacation only they are a good fit. If you dive regularly and prefer to handle your own gear and dive without the feeling of a babysitter they are not the best choice.

Dove with Dressel twice (but not at the Barcelo - I thought they were at Iberostars only) and enjoyed both times. They're definitely geared towards inexperienced/infrequent divers, but they never tried to babysit us and we handled all of our own gear. The boat crew did a tank change for us once, but didn't put it back together properly, so that doesn't even count
