I take banana during surface interval on the boat.
I pee in my wetsuit.

I guess they should neutralize each other.

No Banana's on a ship is actually a result of a long outstanding family tradition. It dates back to the days just after Columbus and all countries started coming over to take claim. My family clan was some of the first to work on the tall sail ships and coming from Ireland, were so excited to enjoy the warm sunny weather in the tropics, they turned their brightly colored kilts into banana hammocks. Naturally, this caused an uprising, and many captains who supported my clan lost their crews, which gave rise to the Caribbean pirates(who weren't actually pillaging, but on a quest to banish banana hammocks). So, they had to convince my ancestors to stop wearing the banana hammocks in an effort to make the seas safer... over the years the word hammock was dropped and it evolved into a superstition.

For the Chinese, ( not neccessary China, they can be from Taiwan,Singapore , Malaysia and Indonesia ), the 7th month of the Chinese Calender is when the Gates of Hell is open. Spirits are believed to be able to roam the mortal world for 1 month ( so to speak 1 month's annual leave ), visiting their families and friends etc.

Generally, older folks will advise staying out late or travelling in this period. There are some friends that I know of, that do not dive during this period. I'm actually in this group too. The English calender have leap yrs, likewise, the Chinese calender have "leap months" . And in 2006, there are 2 " 7th month" starting from July 25th and ending on Sept 21st.

So maybe during this period, aisan dive sites might see a dip in asian divers ??

Fish_Whisperer:
The only ritual I have, is to make sure I crap before making my way to the dive site, and eating a fairly bland breakfast.

ROFL...I didn't know that was a superstition! For me it is a more of a "I don't want to crap on the boat or in the ocean" sort of thing! I'm just trying to look out for my fellow divers :D

I PROMPTLY ask the captain to hand me my fins right after I back-roll into the water.
