Just so everyone knows, right now I f******** hate life!!!
I am drinking an extremely spicy Bloody Mary, but even this is not quieting the whinings of my frail mortal body! My last dose of nicotine was about 30 hours ago, but man, I'm telling you, I want it BAD! I have never failed at anything in my life, and I am not about to start now, but -----------------------------------------------------, I want a cigar! Help!!

Hang in.

It gets worse.

Then it gets better, MUCH BETTER!

Just want to lend my support. Don't give in to the craving.

It is one of the hardest things in life to give up, nicotine, that is next to diving!! lol but, at the same time it is one of the most rewarding!! HANG IN THERE!!! You CAN do it!!

wow... hard one... i've been off cigs for almost a year (will be exactly a year
June 1)... and it gets a lot better...

it's so worth it, for you and for the ones you love

hang in there, david

I quit smoking cigarettes as well, but I will never give up my dose of cigars. My Trinidads and my Dunhills have a very safe and happy home in my Humidor - nestled atop my cubans that lay on my bottom shelf waiting for my next vacation to the caibbean. Good luck though !!

Andy,, I guess we'll both have a birthday next Teusday! Thanks for all the support, everyone. It is good to hear that others have gone through the same thing while quitting.

Already, things "smell" a lot more. This is cool!

I must commend you for quiting smoking. Just think of all the money you'll save and be able to use on diving eqipment/ trips!!!

I'm going on six years clean, and haven't touched a cig since I decided to quit. A couple of points to ponder.

Put down the bloody mary ;) The worst thing you can do is drink. Alcohol was my undoing the first two times I tried to quit. It will dehydrate you, and weaken you both mentally and physically. You're supposed to stay really well hydrated while quitting, which will help your body clean itself out faster. Eating nutritious food, and exercising will also help.

If you are open minded, try hypnosis. It doesn't work for everybody, but sure helped me. In order to undo all the positive images of smoking that have been pounded into your head via advertising and movies, they will plant negative ones. You'll be asked to visualize things like your funeral (after dying of cancer) and inhaling toilet water through a cigarette.

Be patient and good luck. Just remember that every day you have suffered so far was for nothing if you don't quit. Once you come out on the other side, it's great, especially if you're a diver. I'm 37 and I have more endurance now than I when I was in my twenties.

Best wishes......

Scott
