Buccaneer:
I haven't actually purchased my can light yet, but was planning on it. I didn't think about weight it may add. 32lbs for a guy who is 6 03 and 285lbs in a dry suit with undergarments in my opinion is not overweighted.

Overweighting has nothing to do with opinions ";-)
There are a number of factors that influence buoyancy:
- fresh or salt water
- thickness of undergarment
- body composition
- singles or doubles
- steel or aluminium tanks
- steel or aluminium backplate

There is only one way to make sure: emty your tanks to 30 bar and float with an empty wing on 6 meters.
When this works for you, you are not overweighted.

FWIW - Buccaneer is working with an excellent, and very experienced, instructor. I seriously doubt something as basic as proper weighting has been overlooked in his education ...

A buddy of mine was also working with excellent and experienced instructor (who explained him and showed how to) but he made proper weighting during DIR-F.
