I would like to know if it is possible for regular joe blow diver to set-up a rig diving trip or is that something that has to be done through or by a dive shop, instructor, dive master, etc.?? I ask because we have a small group of family and friends, probably 4-6 of us, who have all been wanting to get out and do a rig dive. It seems like the pickings are pretty slim here in San Antonio...that could be because we aren't looking in the right place. I am signed up for the newsletters from all of the local dive shops and go into them once in awhile to check things out but not really seeing anything lately. If it is possible to do it ourselves, do you all have any recommendations on who to use, etc. It would be great and preferable if we could go out of Port Aransas or that area, but if the Freeport/Galveston area is the only place to do this the we could live with that.

Yes you can set something up, but do it with a diveboat operator, they have all the insurance and stuff in place, I would not recommend to just go and charter a boat and go at it. You might want to check out American Diving, there is somebody that goes out of Port A, but I don't remember the name.

Michael Miglini runs Out To Sea Adventures out of Port A. He runs a good operation and you can book direct. You should be able to get the same price from a dive shop, if they have a spot reserved.

2Coconuts,
Duggan diving here in San Antonio, usually books quite a few trips a year with American Diving out of South Padre. You might want to check there too. The trip out on the boat usually runs about $150-$200 for a 2-3 tank dive. I know they have stuff scheduled for the TX Clipper next weekend and again in Sept. Not sure what else might be goin on.
