My wife and I had the pleasure of diving with Shaka Doug in Maui, February 2010. As this was our first trip to the island we decided to use a guide for our first shore dive, that and Shaka Divers just sounded like fun! We were able to dive the Five Graves (Turtle Town) site. I would highly recommend Doug as a guide and I’m looking forward to diving with him on our next trip to Maui. Doug’s prices were extremely reasonable and are a great value. ~E. Tucker
For me, the dive at 5 Graves with Shaka-Doug was my first in 5 months, my 12th overall, and my first salt water dive ever; to say that I was anxious is more than an understatement. Our experience could not have more surreal or more personal. While briefing us on the dive sight we stood distracted watching whales breach and sea turtles taunt in the waters over Shaka-Doug’s shoulder (he was standing with his back to the ocean). While on our dive we were entertained by the whales of Wailea singing to us exclusively, or so I’d like to think…and we got close up and personal with the turtles (lots of photo ops but no touchy-touchy).
Shaka-Doug though quite an entertaining character, has great character; knowledge and respect for the ocean and its inhabitants and practices eco-friendly dive habits. Doug is an amazing tour guide and greater person. Not only would I recommend him to you, but we will make every effort to catch up with him every time we’re in Maui, and I’m sure times in between. ~ T. Tucker
