Hello!

I don't have much time now (got to go beddee-bye-4:40 AM comes early!) but I wanted to briefly introduce myself.

I am a Deputy Sheriff in Western NC, and was certified in 1992 as a Diver (PADI). I later got Advanced OW, Rescue Diver, and actually completed the course for Divemaster, but never sent the application in for that certification.

I dove pretty heavily fro 92-96 (Florida Springs, Panama City FL, Bimini, Roatan, and several local lakes) but then I parted company with my main dive buddy and THEN got married-BOTH will kill the diving habit! :pity_part

I ended up selling all my gear...well...you've heard this all before. :pity_part

ANYWAAAY...I did dive a few dives in a local lake in that time period with another buddy, but I had the hook in me for saltwater!

(I think it was the great prophet Jimmy Buffett who said "I'm going where the water is warm!") :pirate:

My wife has went back to college, and I only HOPED that one day we'd get to get back into diving.

But a few months ago, I was approached by a Lieutenant in my agency who oversees all Homeland Security stuff to address forming, equipping, and commanding a Dive Team for the agency, that can be used regionally.

Now I'm CERTAINLY not BY ANY MEANS a Super Duper Advanced Diver, but I was the most advanced and experienced diver in my department. We are nearly operational as we speak, and in fact, I was REFERRED to this site because of the section on Public Safety Diving.

Either way....I'm back! It feels good!

Welcome to NC and the board.

There are several quarries we dive and there is a fairly active bunch of us on this board so finding a buddy is not too big of a problem. The quarries are not the greatest diving but beats not being wet and if you are diving in the lakes and ponds around NC, the poorer the place you train the better.

Welcome back! I took a little sabatical from diving when my kids were very young and cash was a rare commodity around my house. I eased back into it as soon as I could afford to and got my son certified when he was 12. He's 23 now and we've been diving gangbusters ever since. It was the best thing I ever did as a father. My son and I have had some great experiences together that are not your everyday stuff.

Anyway, we went to Moorehead City, North Carolina a fews years back and dove the U-boat and some of the other local WWII wrecks. Pretty good! Lots of SandTiger Sharks and shark's teeth all over the bottom. The only thing I didn't like was the cattle boat approach that Olympus Diving uses. There were 25 people bumping into each other on the wrecks.

Don't you hate when that marriage thing gets in the way of diving :D

(I'm soooo alone)

Welcome to ScubaBoard !

Howdy Sheriff, Welcome to SB and congratulations on getting back into diving and at the taxpayer's expense.:thumb: Good luck on your endeavors and we look forward to hearing about you and your dive team's dives.
