I find this to be very common. Some people feel the need to be important. They are an expert on everything - but are really just full of it. Or they have no interest in the topic at hand and are just trying to hijack the conversation for their own agenda.

I find it even more irritating when it's done face-to-face. It's alot easier to ignore these people on-line, than it is in person.

I bore very quickly of posts from those who have no experience in a paticular subject.

I wonder why they feel compelled to post about something they know nothing about or have only heard about...

Others get bored quickly with people who post complaints about things that cannot be changed.

I think reading through the crap is an inherent part of Scubaboard. That's what makes it interesting.
I don't think there are many subjects that haven't been covered in previous threads.
At least when I want information, the first thing I do is use the search tool and 99% of the time I find what I want to know.
Current threads are just for entertainment and to keep reminding me just how many BoCs don't have the faintest idea what they're doing or why they're doing it. :eyebrow:

It's no worse than the dive magazines where no one ever knows what they're talking about. Here at least you have a chance. LOL

These forums aren't very different from real life. Bring up some topic with a friend. In all likelihood they will talk about it even if they don't know anything.

Actually, that even happens when the subject of scuba comes up with my non-diving friends/associates. I try to steer them away from misconceptions (the extreme "danger," sharks, etc.), but man, it's tough sometimes.

I meant any topic. Start talking about digital cameras. Make some comment about refinancing your house. Tell them you just got back from the hardware store where you looked at some tools for a project you're thinking about. Chances are your friend will know someone that just refinanced their house, they'll have read an article about some new digital camera or they'll have an opinion on which circular saw you should buy even if they've never cut a board in their life. My point is that when presented with the beginning of a converstation people feel compelled to continue it. It happens all the time in real life so I don't see why it wouldn't happen during online conversations.

Excellent words of wisdom from a "mindless lemming". Right on dude.

I appreciate your tongue in cheek support of my opinion but feel the subtlety, (some of you having only a few months experience with the board and commenting on how it has been in the past and will continue to develop in the future) will be lost on most members unless they take the time to read your profile and look at some of your contributions thus far…
