I am planning a lengthy dive trip in March of 09. I plan on going to Belize for a week, Honduras (bay islands) for a week, and Cozumel for a week. Could anyone tell me some dive resorts they have been to in these area that have fitness centers in or nearby? As much as I luv my diving I luv my gym time. Thanks in advance.

I hate to be a wet blanket here, but "working out" and diving don't mix. It is best to do moderate exercise, like walking rather than anything intense which brings up your body temp and metabolism.... lots of studies about this as one possible cause of DCS. Read about it here: DAN Divers Alert Network

:D

From Dan Diver's Website ... "Gas exchange works very well at constant temperature. After diving when body tissues have been loaded with nitrogen, activities such as running, weight lifting or a heavy workload can shake up the bottle of soda, so to speak. So exercise after diving requires that you give tissue nitrogen levels time to drop, making bubbling generation less likely in the tissues. You should always start off a dive well rested with muscle that is cooled down and not calling for more oxygen and blood flow."

In other words ... don't shake the Champagne!

Cocoview on Roatan has a fitness center. I've never been there.

As Steve said, CCV on Roatan has a basic fitness center- free weights, stair steppers, weight machine, treadmill, stationary bike, heavy bag, speed bag, 1/4 court BB, etc. CoCo View Resort Amenities

I wouldn't worry as much about the guy who exercises versus the vast majority who are dehydrated. The consumption of alcohol is a lot more troubling than any workout fan- at least for my selection of dive buddies. Besides- some people find it very difficult to stop or not have a daily session. What are you gonna do?

Most places have darts and hammocks- that's my regimen. ;)

thanks again all!

I didn't see mentioned where in the Bay Islands you'll be going, but Utila has a nice fitness center with daily, weekly, and monthly memberships. Alex Ebanks runs it I believe. It's easy to get to from any of the resorts, hotels or apartments with direct access to town.

Not sure what the boat schedules are from resorts farther down the south shore, or what facilities they might have on their properties.
