I just flooded my first G9 in its Canon housing.
Now I am considering getting a new one...

I was just wondering :
given that the max depth is 40m for the Canon housing, 60m for the Ikelite, and 100m for the Patima, should we consider the latter will be more resistant to flooding and more tolerant to O-ring dust-related dysfunction ?
I would appreciate your views on that guys.
Thank you.

I'm waiting to hear the answers you get (have none myself)...just wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear about your G9 flooding. How terrible!

I've found my Canon housing to be pretty dysfunction-resistant and overall pretty forgiving to everything save human error. It's made it below rated depth by a bit (maybe it was dragging below on a long tether;)), survived grains of salt, sand and hair in the seal. I just make sure to keep it lubed and replace the o-ring if I don't like the way it looks. Of course it wasn't too forgiving when the paper edge of the gel pac got trapped outside and wicked water in, but I file that under the human error thing. Sorry about your camera. Guess you'd better get a G10 and let us know if you get the whole wide angle without distortion in the Canon case ('cause maybe we can't afford the upmarket cases :))
Thoughts and Prayers are with your G9

If you're considering a new housing why not to go with a new camera as well (G10?), given that your is not usable anymore.
BTW, no housing will guarantee against flooding, nothing to do with depth rating.

I don't think the rating has anything to do with the resistance to flooding. A hair or dirt in the wrong place will kill any camera housing. I think as some have said, certain housings are more forgiving. I use the Ikelite because I can visually see the seal, and check if it is sealing properly. Then if I miss that, I can see immediately if I am getting water in the case. And again, if it is leaking, and it is just a trickle, I can tip the case and keep it off the camera until I can get it out of the water. (That happened to me one time)
