I had a student recently ask me if he could do rescue training with his RB. I spoke with the owner of the LDS I teach through and he said PDIC says no. I called PADI, they said no. So does any agency say yes?
What would be ideal is a mixed class of OC and CCR divers since that is a very possible scenariao in real life.

Dave

PADI says no to RB on course unless it the RB courses that are sanctioned by them.

And I think at this point of time, they all say no.

With the assumption that you want to teach RB Rescue with a RB.

I would stick to the curricullum of the Rescue course and complete it to the standards.

Then add an extra day, or half day where the scenarios have a RB involved, you may have a discussion beforehand on what to look for etc.

That way you are covering all bases.

Just a suggestion, I agree that we need to look at the real life scenario.

I believe that as CCR divers become more main stream and at this stage they just are not generally, we will see some 'mixed' course work involving OC and CCR.

I believe TDI will allow a rescue class with CCR divers. I saw it done once in conjuction with a PADI rescue class with open circuit divers. I do not know the requirements but I would suggest calling them.

At this time there is nothing in ANDI's standards explitly prohibiting this.. I do think the skills necessary to rescue a CCR diver are beyond the average OW diver without additional training.. The CCR diver should be fine rescuing the OC diver, but the OC divers will probably need alot of extra work to rescue the CCR diver correctly.. This means extra sessions in a confined enviroment...

Programs that are not really equipment specific make no distinction (at this time)between OC and CCR.. For example Wreck or Cave training.. Doesnt matter if its OC or CCR.. ALL ANDI's CCR requirements must be followed especially the RBS requirements.. This also adds another level to the OW diver to deal with..
