My husband and I are finally going to get to take the rescue diver course in Cozumel this November. We had hoped to take it a few years ago and bought the version 2.3 (revised 9/03) manual and video. They have since come out with a new manual/DVD (blue in color). My instructor says we can use any version we want. Is it worth buying the newer version? Has anything changed significantly?

Thanks.

One of the changes that is debated is if you put the regulator in the mouth of a victim found at depth.

One school has you putting the reg in the mouth and another just bringing the victim to the surface.

There may be changes in CPR and resuce breathing that conflict with new RedCross standards in older editions.

Ide get the latest edition you can as itS great to look at every year for a review. PADI NAUI YMCA any should do.

Keep and use the older version and pen in the updates as they go. If your instructor is fine with it and you are using new books then don't waste money and a perfectly good manual. Just make changes as required.

I just finished both CPR and Rescue. My instructor kept mentioning that the number of chest compresses or the number of rescue breaths have changed over the past few years but said, for the most part, the Rescue diver part was pretty much the same.

Oh I didnt realize you already had an edition. I say no reason forking out then. I thought maybe you were going to by a used one. I should have read better, Youll be fine wit what you have.

I will recommend the CPR/First Aide cheat sheets that come in hard plastic to add to your first aide kit.

Please carry a first aid kit. I really sliced my thumb once on my burst disk nut gearing up and wow was it nasty. I only had tiny bandaids.

"They" ??

They = NAUI ?

Or They = SSI ?

Or They = PADI ?

...

It makes very little sense to try to revive an unconscious person underwater.

Therefore it makes no sense to try to put a reg into someone's mouth underwater.

Remember, Stop, Breathe, THINK, Act.

That is exactly what we were shown in my very recent Rescue class - just get them to the surface so you CAN work towards getting victim to patient!
