First I need some assistance. Next month we are flying to Cancun and driving to Mahahual. On the return we need to stay in a Cancun hotel overnight before our flight the next day. Does anyone have experience with a safe and cheap hotel? We have a car and one of our party is very experienced with driving in Mexico.

We cannot stay further south in Playa del Carmen.

Gracias

If you just need an overnight before catching a flight, try the airport courtyard marriott. They have a free shuttle so you could return the car and not have to worry about it the next day.

You could also stay in Puerto Morelos. It's about 25 minutes or so to the airport from there.

Thanks for the suggestions.

It looks like the new runway goes through the Marriott parking lot. I wonder if the hotel is behind security? :D

According to Orbitz the Puerto Morelos places start at $400 per night. :shocked2:

The night before our return flight we stayed downtown Cancun at the Suites Gaby. It is across the street from the Mercado and a few blocks from the ADO. It was just as their website advertised, clean, newly remodeled, air conditioning, TV, and secure underground parking. The staff was quick to help bring in our bags when we pulled up to the front and they parked the Suburban. The staff brought the bags to the room (no elevator) but the next day we needed to bring them down. They have a shuttle that will bring you to the airport at 8:30 in the morning (after that it is used to take people to the beach). The shuttle price is $25 for one to four persons. The room walls are concrete and the floor was tiled so it was a little noisy at night from other guests, you may want to put a towel under the door.

P.S. I put the actual report at http://www.scubaboard.com/forums/mexico/374672-report-mahahual-chinchorro-xcalak-sian-kaan.html
