Went to dutch springs PA http://www.dutchsprings.com/ on sat aug 28th to dive with my sister. She was up from pensecola FL for reserve training in NJ. First time there and had a good day. The day started out with signing the waiver and paying $22.00 admission to the park. After parking in the lot of about 2-3 hundred cars we walked down to check it out. Saw some nice ramps with rails going in the water to a staging platform in about four feet of water. vis was about 50' surface temp of 75f. It turns out there were some zebra mussles introduced 2 yrs ago and since then the vis has been great. Get suited up for first dive I leave of the hood and gloves come'on 75f. my sister used to warm water wore her hood and gloves with a thicker wet suit. play in the shallows to check our weight. we're both used to salt water. Start our dive things are going ok till I hit the thermocline. temp droped to 45f and got cold quick and went back to get my hood and gloves. OK time to finish the first dive. We go out to a marker of something they sank. follow the line down to see a crane sitting on the bottom pretty neat. finish up with some skills practice time on the underwater platform 30' deep. During surface time drop of a tank to be filled and grab a snack from the mom and pop trailer snack bar. ok food. go grab the tank from the fill station and wonder if its hot from the fill or sun (we know its from the fill). On the second dive we go from the left side out to a school bus then follow a heading to the hellicopter. Not sure what we were going to do next we decided on the surface to go to the wall side of the quarry. That was my favorite part of the second dive. The wall was vertical for about 35' down. The day was good saw my sister had a nice day. last thing i want to add was that there was not one bit of trash on the ground for that busy of a place you know its because everyone used the trash barrels.

I've been down there only twice this summer (4+ hrs) each way. Vis is fantastic especially when you're happy with 10ft. Ther are 2 thermos , one at ~30 ft another ~70 ft or just about at the roof of the Crane. The best is on a weekend when you can nightdive(not allowed during the week). Cruising the wall is warm, clear and feels like being on the Moon. Super clean place also.

Our shop goes there every month for certification dives. Here in Connecticut there are not to many places with good visability so we've found its a great place to bring students of all levels that is relitivly close to home. Some of us camp there Friday and Saturday nites. I think its a great place to dive. :07:
