I have a Sartek canister light with the 10W MRF light head. Been a good one for several years. A couple of dives ago the light just went out. I had not charged it in several dives, so I charged the 2 batteries (11.1v Li-Ion), and the next dive, it worked fine for awhile, then boom, it was out. I thought maybe the batteries were giving out on me, but they weren't showing any indication of winding down. With a multitester I traced power down to the bulb, and after taking it out and re-inserting a few times, it was burning brightly (as opposed to a quick flicker-on, then turn off, which is what it was doing). But the bulb looked really black. Then it just dang fell apart!
The LDS where I bought it says they don't sell Sartek anymore because Sartek will not return phone calls, will not ever get "out of stock" bulbs, etc. They suggested attaching a Light Monkey (formerly Salvo) LED head to the "wet mates" on my canister.
I called Sartek and asked about the bulb. It is "out of stock", and they're saying 6 weeks. Can't do that. Can anyone advise on jumping from 10W HID to LED light head? Or alternately, does anyone know of a LDS that carried Sartek HID bulbs in stock?
