I'm asking this because I'm pretty inexperienced (and not at all certified to inspect anything). If someone (certified) does visual inspections of cylinders, and the cylinders have current hydro, then the cylinders should be good to go for a year (in theory yes). If we wanted to replace a valve, would there be any additional inspection needed? I know when we did a bunch of visuals, all the valves were looked at and had O-rings replaced, and it's possible some valves didn't go back on the (same) cylinder they came from.

Say we had a valve that wasn't previously on any of the cylinders and wanted to put it on one (say DIN instead of Yoke) - would we need to have any other type of inspection done? Like, I take it they are looked at during VIP, but are they tested during hydro? Sorry if this is me being obtuse, I can't find anything about this specifically.

If the shop inspector was inspecting the shop tanks and valves and got them mixed up, no big deal unless some were O2 clean.

If you wanted to switch a valve, you may want to talk to your LDS. Some shops require a new viz on an empty tank, some will just switch the valve for you, some will trust you to keep the tank clean while you swap valves. It depends on how reasonable they are and how well they know you. I have a transfer whip so I can put some air back in the tank so no one asks, however I've been working on my own gear for a while and am carefull when a tank is open.

The valve is not tested at hydro. I usually change the burst disk at hydro, but only rebuild the valve as necessary.
