I was just wondering, what's involved in changing the hose between the first and second stage? I have the hoses, just incase, and just wanted to know how to do it if I'm on a dive and my hose leaks and needs replacement. I don't plan on doing my own service, just stuff to let me save my dive.

2 open end wrenches loosen the nut from the first stage and then second and reverse the process. It is snug and then just tad bit more do not over tighten it does not have to be much beyond snug

It's right up there with changing a light bulb in terms of difficulty, unless you have a scubapro regulator, in which case the manufacturer has thoughtfully used a proprietary fitting on the 2nd stage end of the hose to discourage we pesky owners from doing these life-threatening modifications ourselves. You can use a pair of pliers with some padding (leather or thick tape) to protect the splines on the fitting.

in some cases you need 2 wrenches for the second stage. one goes on the nut on the reg side and the other on the hose. otherwise you risk misaligning the barrel or worse breaking plastic stops that hold the barrel inside the 2nd stage.

Is this only on new(er) Scubapro second stages? I didn't notice anything "amiss" when I change my G250 to a long hose last year. (I did buy it used though so perhaps someone already modified it?)

If your G250 has a splined fitting that the hose screws into, that's the one I was referring to. There's one on the SP hoses; maybe yours had a different hose.
