I have my own mask, fins, snorkel, but want to rent everything else while I'm in Cozumel.

I am staying at FA, using two divers while I'm there. Papa's and Dive House. Does anyone know if I can just rent BC, and Reg. from one of these for a few days while I'm there? This way I can stick with the same equipment for all dives I go on.

Or is there anwhere else on the island that will rent out to me that has good, reliable equipment?

Thanks

First off rental gear is individually priced and it will add up if you dive a lot. You may be better off borrowing a friends gear to take with you if possible. Those kind of friends are hard to find. I doubt it will make much difference if you use two different shops gear as you won't have it long enough to get used to it anyway. :shades:

Thanks for your opinions Gilligan.

But do you know the answer to my question? I'm trying to find out if you can rent from the Dive Ops in Cozumel some equipment for a few days, rather than for each dive with them.

I priced it at some LDS's around here to see what they charge for a weeks rental, but it is too much, and I would rather not hassle with carrying more luggage anyway.

Thanks.

Stayed at FA in May and talked to a couple who did just what you mentioned. They rented from Dive House but it took some negotiation. You should contact Dive House via website and let them know your intensions. Tell them you are want to do shore dives on the days you don't dive with them. They will let you keep the gear on those days I believe.

Good Luck

you should be able to do just that- follow the advice above if you would rather avoid the uncomfortableness of diving with another operator. Or just explain that you want to become comfortable with one set of gear and not switch brands/styles daily.
A friend of mine did exactly what you wanted in Coz- rented gear for a week with the operator at allegro and did a couple of dives with another operator.

Just try to email the dive shop you want to use to check that they have rentals.

Have fun

I checked this very thing out a few years ago, and it turned out to be FAR cheaper to rent from my LDS than from any of the places I checked on Cozumel for my 10 day stay. An added benefit was that I knew the guy who was maintaining the equipment. As always, YMMV.
