I'm going on dive trip to all inclusive Sunset Waters, should I rent a car for the week or a couple of days? We probably won't be doing any add'l shore dives, just checking out the island. Also any suggestions on "must sees". thanks

I was at Sunset Waters 7 yrs ago and am headed back Sat. Wooohooo!

I didn't rent before, and won't this time. I dive daily and usually hit the house reef in the afternoons. I'll night dive some, too. With pool bar, sunset cruise, beach cookout, other stuff they have going on, and a little relaxing, my week's pretty full. I'd not justify the cost of a car for myself. Never missed having one...

However, if you want active nightlife consistently, tour of the island and town, exploration of dif beach dives, etc. you might consider it.

When are you headed down?

Hi CATWOMEN,

I think everybody who doesn't rent a car on Curacao misses the chance to roam around and see all the beauty of the island; beaches, Christoffel and Shete Boka national parks, downtown Willemstad, Sol Food restaurant in Westpoint (15 to 20 minutes from Sunset Waters, depending on your driving; on the way you'll pass the "roller coaster road", the biggest fun by car on the island) - everything is worth to have a look at if you don't want to spend all your time underwater. And it is definitely worth trying a couple of shore dives like Playa Largu / Playa Shon Mosa at San Juan, Playa Porto Marie, Playa Lagún or Playa Piscadó and Playa Kalki in Westpoint.

Whatever you do in the end - have fun!!!

Best regards
Andreas

Dear Andreas,
Have you left Curacao yet or have you decided to stay? Please let the answer be yes, to deciding to stay!!

Yes, he has left the island and did arrive in Europe. See also the thread:

We all hope he's back soon !

CATWOMEN: I suggest you rent a car for at least a few days to see more from the island than the road from the airport to Sunset waters.

Looks like I got outvoted! I did manage to see a bit more than the road to the airport, and though the places mentioned sound great, I am happy to spend all my time underwater! I am landlocked at home!

Dear Andreas,
Hope all is going well for you. I feel slighted that I was unable to have the pleasure of meeting you. Thanks so much for all of your help in planning our trip in May. I will give Sunshine a hug from you when I see her, pet the dogs, and get a pizza and a beer. Best Wishes to you.

If I had never rented a car and seen the rest of the island I would have never considered the possibility of retiring to a Caribbean island.
But I did rent a car, and................
