Hi Everybody!
Some of you may remember me - I was a regular here between 2006-2014 (ish) while I was working as a full time instructor. I had a popular blog before the ScubaBoard format changed (which is more than 10 years ago now!) and was also a moderator for some time, mostly active in the educational forums and the Red Sea board when I was working in Egypt.
I hung up my dive instructor fins in 2014 and let my PADI membership lapse a year later after becoming a little disillusioned with the recreational market. After a bit of hitting and missing on my return to the UK I took up a post with the UK's DIVE Magazine in 2016, where I am now Senior Correspondent and responsible for the magazine's website, much of its online content and a regular stream of print issue articles also.
I sort of let my SB presence lapse during the intervening years, mostly because after spending all day, every day, writing about diving the last thing I wanted to do in my spare time was write more about diving! I especially grew tired of the constant stream of negativity from people whose sole motivation for posting appears to be reminding people about how perfect they are, and why nobody with 10 dives and an entry-level certifcation should be allowed to have an opinion unless they've taken a NASA-level cave course and perfected their upturned-reverse-downward-dog-frog-kick.
I have checked in from time to time but a random post commenting on an article I'd written - while I was looking for updated info about the article I'd written - prompted me to reactivate my account and reply, and I realised how much I missed this place.
Happy to chat and answer questions where I can.
Cheers and, as always, safe diving!
Crowley
