CIBDiving:Buddy of mine tried one in his 7mm J&J for a dive to 80 ft in 45 deg water.
He put it across his back, about his kidneys. all went well for the first 10 min or so then I saw him strat to squirm and try to pull the suit away from his body. He ended up with rather bad burns.
I cut a sleeve from an old 3mm suit and sewed one end closed. I activate the heater, drop it into the neoprene pouch and drop that down the front of my suit so it sits at my chest. Toasty initially and still putting off some heat almost an hour later.Mlody11:I did find this chart... It shows at what temperatures how long it will take to burn you. This is a chart of how hot does the water have to be to burn you but im sure its the same with a heat pack.
66°C (150°F) 2 seconds
60°C (140°F) 6 seconds
52°C (125°F) 2 minutes
49°C (120°F) 10 minutes
Im wondering if it is possible to maybe wrap it in a cloth so there is a bit of space between the skin and the pack. I actaully bought an 8x12 for $5.00 (maybe a cheap verson) but ill try it out and see what happens. Probably wont be until April through...
