Really depends on the regulator. Some do indeed require special tools.
 
I have a scubapro mk2, mk17, g2f0 195 and deep6. Just getting started. I have standard hex wrenches screw srivers wrenches etc. Just put together some test equipement ; Magnehelic guage, 4 inch ip gauge. I now lack torque wrenches, hook spanners, as well as specific scuba pro tools
