Have no fear... it is easier to "pay off a tank" than you might initially think. Consider this:
Bought a LP-95 tank in early 2005 for $195.
Kept it 16 months. With an air fill costing $5, and a tank renting for $10, I probably saved $120 on rentals. Tank inspection cost me $10 so I really only saved $110.
But... the tank was not discarded. I sold it on eBay for $178. High resale value makes tank ownership economical. For me, owning tanks is money well spent.
