Hi all,

I dive with a pony bottle whose second stage I carry with a bungee under my chin. I have used an aqualung calypso for several years now, and need to replace it. I need a tough, high quality regulator which is not prone to free flowing (because of the way I wear it, it is upside down most of the dives). What would your advice be? Price for first and second stage should be in the low 300s if possible.

Thanks!

Hubert

I use a Zeagle 1st stage with an Oceanic Slimline on my pony. My octo is on the short hose and bungee and is also a Slimline for a nice fit under the chin.

My pony has an APEKS FSR 1st and an ATX 40 for the 2nd. I used to have the Scuba Pro MK20 as the 1st, but it was prone to free flow in cold water, despite the fact it had a T.I.S. When I move to 2x's it will move as well and the Scuba Pro will go back on the pony.

I use a Sherwood Brut (that I bought in 1984). Cheap, and tough as old boots.

For a second stage I like an adjustable and balanced unit. This provides the ability to have the regulator tuned to minimum inhalation resistance with the option of the diver increasing the resistance it if he/she finds the need to such as in your case.

It is a good idea to have the same manufactures 1st and 2nd stage to make getting service less complicated.

Wow, search feature works. I am also thinking about which reg to put on a 19 ft pony. I am looking for something that can be had on the cheep from ebay, very reliable, compact and maybe be adjustable.

So I thought about a conshelf-cheep and reliable
or a micra-compact second stage (but the first might be a bit large) and adjustable
but I am not sure what would satisfy all 4 conditions. If I can't find something I'll probably just go with a conshelf.

Any suggestions?

I use a CONSHELF XIV on my 19 pony. I also switched it over to DIN to streamline it (gets rid of the huge Yoke knob). Works perfectly.

I use a MK2/R190 on the rare occasion I use a pony, but maybe the ideal pony reg to me would be MK2 with a 109 2nd stage. The 109 is adjustable, extremely durable, breathes great, and the combination of the 2 unbalanced stages will provide some warning for a near-empty tank.
