I was wondering about how much a new first and second stage cost. I recently went to my LDS to get a new one and the woman there (she was new..I've never seen her there before) showed my them and said that just a first and second stage was about $165-$350...and that's on sale! I don't know...but to me that sounds a bit high. Needless to say I went else where for my purchase.

There weren't even carrying "great" regs either. They were the big bulky older models.

What's your budget, and do you want LDS or online bought regs? Post some details and you can get some recommendations appropriate to your budget/expectations.

One of my coworkers just got out of the sport because his wife was worried about him doing it. He sold me his reg pretty cheap and he's only used it a handful of times. I got it serviced and it works fantastic.

For pricing baselines, look at www.leisurepro.com and www.diveinn.com. They tend to run 50 to 70% of MSRP on regs. Good check for all gear purchases. But they do not have the training or service you can find in your LDS. At least give them a shot to compete.

I've been trying to price the Mares Abyss and have seen them around for about $300. Some places up to $500.

I got a Mares Abyss off LeisurePro 3 months ago, and so far it's been an excellent reg, and you can't beat that price...
You can get to 200' and don't even feel a difference....
