From a competing board, but I thought it important to re-post this in case someone knows something. Also a reminder to keep an eye on your gear. As a group, I have found the scuba community to be one of the best I've ever encounterd, but there are always bad apples......
a traitor among us...
Hey guys, As i posted earlier i am new to the area but i went to Navarre this weekend saturday and sunday and had a blast both days, until sunday afternoon. We were out diving/spearing and we decided just to do some free diving so I anchored my tank and reg to the bottom of a pier piling (which i now see was a terrible mistake) I noticed one scuba diver near the end of the pier so my friends and I moved out away from him so as not to disturb his dive. I speared a small fish that had been beat up by something else just to put it out of its misery when a 4-5 foot blacktip showed up and wanted his lunch back. i dropped the fish and we moved away until he left, and when we returned to the piling by my tank, that diver was gone as well as my regulator, though he left the tank. We swam to the beach to search for him but he was nowhere to be found, and the lifeguards hadnt seen him come out of the water so he must have gone pretty far out of the way once he grabbed it. The regulator is a Poseidon Odin that was a gift from my grandfather back home. It has a yellow octopus on it and a basic gauge set up with a compass, pressure, and depth gauge. I realize that it is likely long gone now but I just thought I'd ask everyone to maybe keep an eye out and let me know if they hear of or know anything. I've only been diving for about 4 1/2 years but it is disappointing to think that another diver would do that. apparently i'm just naieve. if anyone has any information i would really appreciate it, thanks guys.
