I looked at the xtx50. A lot of reg for what I would use. How is the xtx20? It would be more in mine price range and with the features I would use. I will still look into a hood of some sort. A guy can't have too much gear, can he?
 
Not necessarily - These are vented. I've used them and been very happy, but I was solving a different problem. Check out Doc's Proplugs: The Doctor's Choice for Ear Protection

If conventional earplugs solved the problem for swiming these vented earplugs will probably do the same for diving. I don't use them but know people who do although like Jim they use them for other reasons.

The xtx20 is for warm water only. The xtx40 is the lowest cold water model. The xtx50 is the same as the xtx40 except it has diver adjustable inhalation effort. I don't believe the second stage of the xtx100 or xtx200 is different than the xtx50 in any way, they just differ in which first stage they have as far as I know, but maybe there are some small differences.

I personally use a xtx200 so what do I know about the other models. :)
