California ReefCheck Survey Planning has moved over to www.ReefCheck.org.
The goal is to encourage divers from all parts of California to assist each other in completing rocky reef surveys. The species list is the same for SoCal, SLO-Cal, and NoCal.... and travelling to other parts of the state will be part of the fun.
The first SoCal survey is now being planned for Deer Creek, March 31, 2007.
Check out the new ReefCheck site for more information.
A little Background:
The ReefCheck California Monitoring Program is a non-profit, state-wide group of volunteer divers, collecting scientifically valid data on the health and diversity of California rocky reefs.
2006 was the first year of training and data collection. Training classes were held in Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, and Monterey.
New classes are beginning soon in all three areas. Check the ReefCheck website for more information.
The California Department of Fish and Game recognizes the validity of data collected by Certified ReefCheck divers, and the goal is to provide data that can be used for scientifically sound resource management decisions.
ReefCheck is not an advocacy group with any legislative agenda.
We are volunteer divers, trained and validated in survey techniques that we use consistently in all parts of the state.
Our data is available to all groups who have interests in protecting our rocky shore resources.
PM me for more information, or visit the California Training Section of the ReefCheck.org site.
