Mine was made in Bangka. It's a lively thing extra long. I used to have two but one was absconded with last time I was in Bangka. The absconding diver, once home snd contacted by me, acknowledged that indeed they had said pointer but thete was no offer to return it to me. Sigh

I will have to find a way to make my remaining pointer from Bangka so distinctive that no one will ever mistake it for their own. Nor the dm who gathered up said divers gear and supposedly this is wear the fault actually lay.

What is that black near the top of your pointers?
It's black paracord in what's called a solid gear wrap for a nice positive grip. If you pay the shipping I would be happy to make one for you for free. Just let me know the length.

Oh, it may be a few months before Canada becomes the 51st state (unless there is an invasion of course), but I can send it USPS Priority Mail at that point at a fraction of the cost! :p

I bring a few bamboo sate sticks along with my muck stick.
That's something I learnt from the Tulamben dive guides.
The guides at NAD Lembeh had an array of pointers. Some were curved...or maybe just bent.

Here’s my pointer from Amazon. It has a palm friendly grip that won’t poke my palm when jabbing it into the sand on a current dive.

Including a pointer that wasn’t much more than a toothpick! I had to lookup Lembeh Sea Dragon to make sure he wasn’t pointing at a strand of algae and a Hairy Shrimp. With eggs!

I made one out of some leftover 1/4" stainless rod just prior to to our trip. It worked amazingly well, especially when using the camera for closeups.
Question:
How do you stow that away when not in use?
I also have a SS one and find I leave it on the boat [99%] of the time, it's, where the bloody Hell do I put it for easy removal?

Funny story, I was caught in a current in Bali last years the only thing I had at hand was the handle on my GoPro [with a bolt snap tied] , I jammed that in between rocks and held my position fumbling for the pointer, stowed well but hard to get to one handed, I looked 'a right goose' trying to find it.

My guide [nice guy otherwise] was jamming the thing in everywhere and teasing the wildlife with a cheap Al pointer, that I don't like, when people use them.

I clip it to BCD for entry then loop lanyard over wrist during descent or shortly after. Then just hold it between my hands. If I need my hands, purging mask, I let it briefly dangle. Habit, I don’t even think about it.

Yeah, I get that, just another thing in my hands.
Whatever works for you.

The pointer lanyard goes over my left wrist immediately after hitting the water and I grip the pointer for most of the dive. I swing it up against my forearm when not in use or just let it hang. In Indonesia I had a magnifying glass on my left wrist too and was able to use both at the same time believe it or not. They get clipped back on my left D-ring during the safety stop. The camera tray lanyard goes over my right wrist. This configuration worked extremely well throughout the trip...until the reef hook made its debut appearance. With all this paraphernalia in play, a reef hook with line that was way too short, a face ripping current and my attachment point breaking within the first two minutes it turned into a bit of a sh!tshow. Fortunately between the super short line and the extra long pointer I was able to hook into another spot before being blown off the reef. Diving can be very humbling sometimes.

Appreciate the offer.

I don't mind pointing but interfering with the wildlife, I'm against.

My stick is handled much like soloist describes. I'm either using it, or holding it against my forearm.
