First, I'd like to express how excited I am to be going for my first ocean dive in 2 weeks time with "Bahama Divers" dive resort out of Nassau.

Well, I was wondering if anyone knows whether reef gloves and dive knives are permitted in coral reef dives? I've heard that many Carribbean locations restrict such use.

Also, if anyone here has experience with diving in Nassau...I'd like to know the approx. visibility in 40' reefs in that area and whether or not I should pack my dive light for day dives there?

I have not run into any restrictions on the use of knives and gloves while diving around Nassau. A dive light is not necessary during the day dives, but can come in handy to look into dark areas in the reefs and wrecks as well as to bring out some of the natural colors on deeper dives.

Sounds like you are very excited about the trip - I hope that all goes well.

I just returned from Grand Bahama and used both gloves and a dive knife. Make sure your dive knife is packed in checked baggage!

Think about a night dive...we saw a moray, octopus, squid and much more. It was a blast.
