Chicago, IL-Jan. 23, 2007 (DNW): Reef Check Headquarters announced details today for comprehensive Training of Trainers workshop and seminar presentations at the Our World Underwater show in Chicago this February.
Reef Check EcoAction training programs offer dive professional and operators the chance to make participation in environmental education financially self-sustaining said Reef Check Executive Director Dr. Gregor Hodgson. Industry research indicates that educated and informed divers are frequent divers. Reef Checks scientifically tested and proven programs are specifically designed keep divers traveling. We are very excited to bring our conservation programs to Our World Underwater and thank the OWU Foundation for their support with this important program. Our World Underwater consistently brings the best of the Midwestern dive community together to enjoy our mutual love and stewardship of the worlds oceans. The Reef Check Training of Trainers course is designed to provide participants with the skills and experience needed to train recreational divers in the Reef Check EcoAction conservation courses. In addition to teaching survey methods, the training program addresses safe diving practices, techniques of research diving, sampling design and theory, general marine ecology including species identification and interactions, and the specifics required to teach these courses. Trainings include a combination of classroom and pool sessions. Following completion of the training, all participants will have the skills necessary to successfully instruct Reef Checks Conservation courses and issue agency specialty certifications (NAUI or PADI) pending RC HQ approval.
Reef Check will also be offering a seminar for all divers on Saturday morning at 10:30. Join Reef Check Director of Training Chris Knight as he presents THE CORAL REEF CRISIS AND HOW DIVERS CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE. The seminar presents the problems facing coral reefs globally and how divers may hold the key to saving them.
The details of the class are as follows:
- Class length 1.5 days
- Schedule: Friday, 8:00am 4:00pm AND Saturday, 8:00am 12:00 noon
- Location: TBA
- Credits: PADI or NAUI certification to teach the Reef Check EcoAction Specialty PADI or NAUI
- Prerequisite: Divemaster and above
- Cost: $100.00
