Evil Jeff and I made a short dive at Vet's this morning. He had a short fill so our plans to go into the canyon and find squid became a "Let's stay shallow and hope we find something" dive. Merry asked me to shoot video of squid egg sacs swaying in the surge. Fortunately we found two patches of eggs just before heading uphill. As we reached the shallow water I spotted a Dendronotus iris nudibranch. It was the first time I had seen the brown version outside of La Jolla Cove.
We were able to walk out of the water without falling or losing any of the three cameras we were carrying, so it was one of the best eighteen minute dives I've ever had. We had a murky ten feet of vis down to 25 feet with a nice 18-20 feet below that. Water temperature was 52F.

Very Cool BottomTime. Charlie and I had our first dive in the canyon last week and it was quite a surprise how much life was out. Rock Bleenys, Squid Eggs, Tiny Shawls, Juvenile Squid, Southern Kelp Crab, Erileptus spinosus, Sand Dabs and a few species we couldn't identify....It was getting pretty cold as we got down past 70ft, first time my computer showed 53 this season.

Since then my last three dives have been at Christmas Tree Cove..I'm getting pretty used to the hill...But any word on when Marineland will be opened up? I'm fiend-ing for that place:depressed:

Nice meeting you the other morning, Phil! We had a great dive out at Vet's as well....found a tiny octo that decided he wanted to shoot ink a few times. He put on a very nice little show for us. And there were fringeheads in EVERY shell out there! It was definitely a great dive considering how bad some of the other areas looked (chocolate milky).
