Hey all,
I will be going to Grand Cayman for the first time over New Years Eve this coming winter, and I am very excited. Some brief info on me and my trip:
1) By the time of the trip, my buddy (girlfriend) I will have 10-12 logged dives.
2) I am staying at the Westin (which has an associate with Red Sail sports).
3) I will probably do 1 2 tank dive, 1-2 1 tank afternoon dives and a trip to Stingray City
So I read some older threads here and people seem to frown upon Red Sail due to short dive times and cattle call style diving with big boats and lots of tourists. Well, as I said, I am a newbie, and I do not get great bottom times anyways at this point. So looking past that point, is Red Sail a safe outfit? They keep their rental gear in good condition? Friendly people to help with your gear, briefings of the dive site, etc? To me, the most important thing is feeling safe, not being "forced" to dive past my comfort level and a helpful staff. I would like to use Red Sail because they are located at my hotel, so I guess I am just looking for re-assurance.
Secondly, it may be early to inquire, but I will be there for New Years Eve. Any must see fireworks or parties or dinners or something to do that night? I know GC is usually a quiet island, but I figured maybe on NYE something is going on.
