I've uploaded three more photos of Red Irish Lord's to my photo gallery here. These were taken in Port Hardy but we have them here in Puget Sound as well. They are such a cool fish. I love their eyes!

Great Photos

These are similiar to the sculpin or cabezon here in SoCal. I've seen slate pictures and thought they would be redder. Do you know if this species is also located here in SoCal?

I don't know what their range is Tom but they are a type of sculpin and are shaped like a cabezon except smaller and of course more colorful. I have a picture of another one that was yellow and pink! I don't know if they change color to adapt to their surroundings or if the yellow one was *special*.

I have uploaded a picture of the yellow and pink Red Irish Lord.

Here's one from Albert Head in Victoria. It has a tongue shaped like a fish!
:D Last month I was diving with NWGratefulBob at Redondo Beach in WA - I spotted a Great sculpin having trouble swallowing a Not-so-great sculpin. Sounds morbid maybe, but seeing the cycle of life happen under water (new life as well as life ending BTW) is a privilege I'm thankful for.

According to the book Welks and Whales their range is from the Bering Sea to Monterey California. From what I have heard they can range in colour red to brown with black and white mixed in. Really good book.
