Fastmarc:In my opinion, I would wait until I could get a strobe.
I think of strobes and filters as different tools. There is certantly some overlap, but IMHO, the prudent photographer picks the right one for the situation.
additionally, a nice filter is ~$30-$75.
A nice strobe is ~$600 with cheaper ones being in the $150-$250 range. Add strobe arms, fiber optic cables and a tray and you add another $150-$300 to that.
Given that, for many who shoot jpegs on a small automatic camera, a filter is a great cost effective way to dramatically improve their photographs.
One of my goals as a photographer is to create pictures that require no post processing. Sometimes a filter is the right tool to do that.
