Headed to Siquijor for a week. Looking for recommendations on dive shop and lodging. Not looking for 5 star. As long as the a/c works and is clean
Thanks!

My only experience there was staying and diving at coco grove resort. I did a week there last year. I understand you said no 5 star, by ph standards it’s 5 star. I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was one of the best weeks I have ever had on vacation. The dive shop in house was decent. They were terrible communicating beforehand but once I got there there were great. I had a dive buddy for part of the trip, I dove solo for a day or two at the end when my buddy had to return to Manila. They assigned us a dive master for the week and we dove with him (Elvis) by ourselves, and I dove solo with him when my buddy returned to Manila.

I think it was around 5k php to stay at the resort per night. Diving was around 3k php per day per person. So not cheap by ph standards but I think well worth it. The resort is centered around a private beach which imo was close second only to Boracay as far as beaches go in ph. The beach is within the wildlife sanctuary there. We did 2 dives every day and saw plenty of turtles, fish, electric clam, etc.

We did a day trip to Apo Island. They don’t offer it every day so it’s best to schedule in advance. If you are there a week you will likely have at least one or two opportunities to go to Apo. They have a modern “real” boat to go to Apo. It’s not a homemade bankga like you get most of the time.

We ate at the onsite restaurants most days. They have an activities coordinator walking around, they try to make it like an all inclusive experience. But you can get a trike and there are a few decent restaurants offsite.

You can probably get places cheaper but I feel like it was a good value. The cost for an all inclusive luxury type trip like that would be many times more in the western world, and more expensive even in more popular ph destinations like Boracay or Bohol. To me it was a great deal.

I love Siquior...sadly I did'nt do any diving there on my 3 trips. So I can't be of any help with diving. I can't remember the name of the place i stayed first but no A/C and really basic resort, but we did stay at coral cay 2x not all their rooms have A/C. It's not upscale but has a beautiful beach but very shallow and their food was good. No dive shop though so again I'm no help, just taking up digital space here.

@Johnboy70_99 we would always go to coco grove for lunch, I love the service there. They always put a Mr. In front of your name, I want a fake passport (they check your passport even just coming for lunch) that says Bond so they will say Mr. Bond all the time. And their beach is spectacular.

@deaf diver it's been ages since I've been but the island isn't that big but was growing so Google will be a great place to see all the resorts and dive shops. Definitely do a waterfall hike and even a drive round the island is really beautiful, Siquior is so lush and scenic.

I spent a few days in Siquijor this past August. I dove with Bahura and stayed with the attached resort Lazi Beach Club. It outside of the main touristy area. The owners of Bahura really helped with all of the small details. Which ferry to avoid from Duma, they even arranged a tricycle to pick me up at the pier and take me to the resort. Trike is 1000 pesos, and a van is 1500. Next time I would go with the van. One hour on a bumpy trike was a bit much. I opted for a fan room, but it was huge and only 10 meters from the beach. The resort is a bit isolated, but a short walk to a small sari sari shop if you want something from outside. I ate most of my meals at the resort. No complaints. I did order delivery once from Twenty4 cafe. The fish tacos were really good. Resort had no problem with outside food or drinks.

I was the only diver for my three days (10 dives) and it was not a problem. Most of the dives are shore dives. If there are more than three divers then no extra charge for a boat. My DM Rocky was great. Safety procedures were well followed. The O2 tank, first aid kit was always identified and made sure aboard before we left. Only one dive was less than 60 minutes and all were no deco. We had a mix of reef and muck sites. Notable things we saw: mimic octopus, ribbon eels, seahorses, frogfish, nudibranchs (tons), ornate ghost pipe fish, more turtles than I could count.
