Hi again,
More questions for you canon user and this is about what settings work best underwater. auto focus mode which do you recommend-One Shot, AI focus or AI Servo, do you switch between them underwater? My next question is which metering works best-Evaluative, Partial or Center Weighted.

I've been practicing shooting macro of indoor tulip buds ready to bloom and finches on my window feeders and at times the lens has a difficult time locking the focus. Will I experience the same thing underwater?

I will be going back to Bonaire the end of July and hopefully I will )in good consciousness) pull the plug and buy the housing!! (of course, tax refund plays a big part!! LOL)

Thanks again,
Wendy

For most parts I leave it at one-shot and evaluative metering. Although lately I've started to use center-weighted for certain situations (bright subject/ dark background... vice versa...) As for AF point, I usually select the AF center point. Point, focus lock, recompose. Which btw is a lot easier on land than when you're in the water with any surge... :D If it's with a subject that isn't moving and I have more time to work on composition, then I might switch the AF point (for instance use the focus point closest to a nudibranch's head).

As for difficulty getting focus lock, I think the key is having a subject well lighted or with good contrast.

I must admit to being lazy. I don't bother with my metering ;) I just eyeball it. I find it quite easy underwater.

I use autofocus and usually leave it in the middle, but I do use the other AF points now and then. I find they are pretty easy to change underwater in the housing once I figured out how to do it.

I have switched my focus to the back * button instead of to shutter half press. I found this gave me much less frustrating results.

Single shot almost always...can't remember ever switching this underwater.

What lens are you using? Is there any contrast to your subjects for the AF to lock on? What's your shutter speed - maybe it's too slow and you have camera shake? Are you, in fact, too close?

Hi Alcina,
I am using my 60mm and the tulips are in my front window so I have a bright back light which I am compensating by using the flash. I just need more practice trying to shoot macro with it. Camera shake..I'm sure I have it!1
