I'm heading to Roatan in the end of April 2008 and my brother said I should dive with Native Sons. I'm looking for recommendations on hotels nearby, preferrably in walking distance to Native Sons...

We stayed at Casa Calico last year in Roatan (Welcome to Casa Calico). It's a nice bed and breakfast at the edge of West End, away from the noise. The property is owned by an American, seemed to be newly renovated, very clean, and the price was great (I think it was $60/night). The breakfast in the morning was great as well. As I recall, it's walking distance to Native Sons, but then again, pretty much everything is within walking distance of everything else in West End.

I also recommend Coconut Tree Divers in West End (Coconut Tree Divers - Roatan, Honduras). They're a great operation. Cool instructors/DM's, safety concious, nice boats (I think they even got a new one). I'd definitely return to them when going back to Roatan.

Have fun!

My favourites are Cocolobo $90/night, Arco Iris $50/Night, Casa del Sol $30.

Depends on your budget you get what you pay for. i.e i would definitely prefer cocolobo to casa del sol. I would say Casa Calico is comparable with Posada Arco Iris.

I just got back from Roatan yesterday. I stayed at Posada Arco Iris for the second time in the last year. The rooms are pleasant and clean. I will probably stay there again later in the year. Plus they are two doors down from Native Sons.

I also went with Coconut Tree Divers for the third time in the last year. I can't say enough about how well run an organization they are. Really impressive. Native Sons seem fine but their boats are small and lack cover from the sun.
