I'm turning 40 next year and looking to take another trip to the South Pacific. Last year, for my wife's we went to Yap, Palau and Guam, and loved it. I'm looking at Bali / Wakitobi, Saidapan Water Village and someplace else in Borneo, or possibly Thailand, Lembah area. Any recommendations?
My only constraints are i'm flying continental (points) and I'm looking to spend a total of about 15-20 nights abroad. I'm shooting video and stills and my wife is not a big liveaboard fan.

Any help or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Corby

Now that's the way to spend your 40th! Bali's definitely a good place, especially if you dive the liberty shipwreck in Tulamben and try Amed. If you go this fall, there are the molamola/sunfish that come up from the depths in SE Bali and are a sight to see. Can't comment on Borneo or other places in that region b/c have never been there.

As for using your Continental miles, there's a nightly direct flight on Continental to Bali through Guam. I don't think there are airline partners in Indonesia. If you use Northwest though which is a partner airline you may open yourself up to more destination by flying out of Hong Kong, Manila or Bangkok. The last two destinations you can get some REALLY cheap tickets to places in Borneo/Malaysia, but those you have to buy when you're in-country.

You also might want to run this thread in the Asia travel destinations board.

Well, you've certainly chosen great destinations! I am a Group Leader and have a trip planned into Wakatobi in November, 2004. We wiil leave the West Coast on October 30th and spend the first 4 days getting over jet lag in Bali at a wonderful hotel on the beach, then on the 5th we fly out to Wakatobi for the incredible diving and photography they are known for. Most of the folks already signed up are great photographers, both still and video so you would fit perfectly!
Let me know if this interests you - the great group rates, itinerary, etc. Call at 800-433-2423 or e-mail to DBloye@Travizon.com
Thanks, and an early, Happy Birthday
