I’ve been surprised at how happy I am with the DiveVolk housing

I'll be taking my new DiveVolk rig on my upcoming liveaboard trip. It's a clever (and powerful) solution.

I have a Divevolk and a Kraken, I prefer the physical buttons on the Kraken. Although it's definitely a bit more limited.
If I wasn't using dry gloves I might feel different.

I think it’s interesting that DiveVolk has just (pre)released a button for the existing housing.

A friend built one using a flashlight tube and simple BT shutter, simple apparently.
Having a tactile shutter makes a big difference when doing anything more detailed then wide shots.

What light/s are you using?

A pair of BigBlue 4600s. They emit both white and blue light. With my Keldon Spectrum red filter, I'll be using the blue light.

Thanks, Rous. Will you be using this as your primary rig? Are you using any wet lenses, e.g. for macro? Also, what phone app are you using? I’m curious about the newish UWACAM app . . .

After lugging my existing camera rig around the world, I'm hoping that the DiveVolk solution works well enough that it can become my primary rig. I'm cautiously optimistic. I have their wide angle wet lens and, as I shoot wide angle all the time, I'm not planning for any other lens options. I like everything about UWACAM, except for the fact that it's iPhone only. So, I'll probably use Blackmagic or ProTake on my Pixel camera/phone.

I'll be spending some time in my neighborhood pool doing some testing. This camera solution certainly weighs less and packs away easier than a traditional housed camera.

I'm looking for a smart phone housing and was set on getting a Kraken. What do you think makes the Kraken more limiting than the Divevolk?

Our next outing has serious weight restrictions, and I will take only the DV, although my macro fetish complicates things. I’m going to move to an iPhone 16, which has a higher resolution than my current 14, and a friend is getting good results with that device and sometimes a diopter. I plan to give UWACAM a try. I haven’t decided on lights yet, but they’ll need to be compact. Good luck scaling back.
