Are you in such disbelief that a manufacturer would make such a greedy markup? Or are you questioning the facts? Or in just in denial that you paid too much?
its simple...

NAME A BRAND THAT SELLS CHEAP!!

end of story...

It doesn't matter what it costs to build one. At all. And it certainly doesn't translate into a "rule of thumb" for purchasing.

If one doesn't like the price of something, don't buy it. Simple.

It's not about consumers getting duped or a company being greedy. Each product comes out with a price. If the market thinks it's fair, the product survives.

To discuss how much you believe a company spends to create, market, support, trouble-shoot and manufacture something and then for you to decide that it costs too much to buy is a personal thing - it isn't a fact. How complex the item is often doesn't have much bearing on how much it sells for - the company sets a price and let's the market work itself out. Have you seen the price on some skateboards?? These are not complex bits of electronics and the decks alone can hit the $135+ :D. Checked out bridal veils lately? They want like $250 for some of these - and they ain't that complex either...some will see the value in spending that, some won't. Neither set of people are right or wrong (moderately insane maybe ;) ).

I have spent over $700 on a strobe and under $500 - neither time did I feel I paid too much for what I bought. Others may feel differently. That's fine.

And none of this particularly is helpful, imho, and I can't believe I bothered to type it LOL

Yes, the skateboards are expensive but I was comparing a strobe to a digital camera not a skateboard.
