Heading down to Dominica, and we'll need to stay over a nite in San Juan Puerto Rico on the way down and on the way back.

Never been to Puerto Rico - never even thought about going there. We'll have half a day to do whatever, go to sleep, and then fly out the next day. Can anyone recommend a hotel? Anything else to do in two half days there?

I had to do something similar a couple of years ago. I stayed at the Hampton close to the airport and it was nice. I went down to old San Juan the next morning and that was worth the visit.

I'd recommend getting a cab. Driving in San Juan turned out to be kind of an adventure. It's like Boston with better weather.

Oh yeah, There's a little dive shop in a mall across the street from the Hampton in case you forget your mask - like I did.

Sounds good. Was the price reasonable? I went on travelocity and most of the hotels were $200 to $1200 per night!!

There is a Best Western right in the Airport - AA gave us the opportunity to stay there overnight on our trip to St Lucia.

I checked and the Hampton is over $200 a night - OUCH!
Yeah, that area close to the airport is kind of pricey. As I recall there wasn't anything real cheap close by for the night I was there - at least that I was willing to trust sight unseen.

The Canario Inn in San Juan is a nice place to stay. It's small and quaint but clean. A double room is $120 and located about 4 miles from the airport. Their toll free number is 1-800-533-2649. I would call as soon as possible in advance.

Here is a website for all three of the Canario properties:
