hi there! my husband and i are new to the sport (just returned from first dive trip-cozumel-had a great time!!), and would like suggestions on a dive magazine to subscribe to. someone told us the "best" one went out of business and that the remaining ones are biased (that the info is slanted to the companies who are advertising in the magazine). your thoughts and recommendations are appreciated. thanks!

Depends what you want the mag for. I like online myself, but if you have to have something in your hands, I've found Undercurrent to be reasonable on most issues(www.undercurrent.org).

The important thing is to recognize that it is only 1 source...

Dive Training is excellent, Diver from the UK is also good I found. You may also want to look at some local mags - I know there have been times in the book store where I saw a new mag and it was all done locally. Kinda cool to see some of the dives you do in print!

Dive training is "ok".

I like Advanced Diver Magazine.

And no...I'm not suckin up to Curt because he keeps offering trips. LOL. I live in Indiana. Remember?

Dive training is a great mag, although I have been noticing more and more ads hawking overpriced gear lately. Guess they have to pay the bills somehow. It's still a lot better than Sport Diver and Rodale's Scuba Diving, they are way too commercial, no content.

Dive Training is OK, Scuba Diving and Sport Diver get boring after a few issues, they all start to look the same. There's a new kid on the block, I picked up a couple of free issues at the Boston Sea Rovers 50th Annual Underwater Clinic & Film Festival. It's call Fathoms, (http://www.fathomspub.com/). It's geared toward the "serious" diver, we're talking articles and stuff from Stan Waterman, Robert Ballard, etc. A bit heavy on the science for some, I'm sure, but the photography is spectacular, and the articles aren't paid endorsements.
This opinion is based on TWO free issues, so I can't say that I'm an expert.

Congrats on becoming a new diver! Isn't Cozumel fabulous?
We read Sport Diver and Scuba Diving. I haven't found them biased. they seem to give fairly accurate reviews of equipment. The info is great. If you are in California, California Diving News is cool too for local dive info. :dazzler1: undefined
