I am going to be doing a two week trip to belize and Mexico at the beginning of sept. Starting in belize and then taking the ADO bus up to eventually fly out of Cozumel to head home.

Wondering if there are any places you would recommend I check out for diving along the way as I make my way to Cozumel or dive shops to go with? I am OW certified with just over 30 dives currently.

Will probably be in belize for the first week diving and then have up to a week to play with before I fly out of Cozumel.

Thanks

If diving is your primary objective, I'd spend most or all of your second week in Cozumel. While there is diving from various mainland locations up and down the Yucatan coast - Tulum, Akumal, Playa del Carmen - the ocean diving from the coast doesn't come close to Cozumel. If you have an interest in Cenote diving, you do want to do that from a mainland location, like Akumal. If you have an interest in Mayan ruins, stop at Tulum, and you can spend a couple of days exploring Tulum, Coba and Chac Mool, with maybe a Cenote dive or two (personally, Cenote diving bores me - occasionally lovely rock formations, but no real life to speak of; I'd much rather be on a vibrant coral reef), maybe even the Sian Ka'an Biosphere, then head up to Cozumel.

I enjoyed diving in Mahahual, Mexico with Bucaneros del Caribe dive shop. They are about 30 miles north of Belize border.

Many here also recommend diving in Xcalak, Mexico, which is just acoss the border into Mexico.
