In the past I've tried rechargeable AA batteries. They lasted so little that I dumped them in favor standard alkaline.

How are they now? Would you use rechargeable or disposable batteries for your A650? Thanks!

NiHM Technology has come a long way in the past 2 years, try them out again. I'm waiting on my 650 to show up in the mail :-)

I can get three dives with one set of batteries in my A620, maybe 250 photos.

Recharge or disp?

rechargable usually 2500 or better mAh- I just checked my SD cards from a trip to Key Largo last week. I shot 140 - 180 pics each day for three different days, recharging at night. Didn't have any problems with batteries. My internal flash is set to fire every shot, but only at 1/4 flash.

I use "MAHA 2700 mAh 4 AA NiMH Rechargeable Batteries" in my Canon A720IS and go 2 dives between changes without any problem. I started using these based on recommendations I found here on Scubaboard and also on some other photo websites. The prices are quite reasonable also. Here is where I get mine from:
