Last time I was in Cozumel I put my rechargables in a dry box with a clear top. The Cozumel guys confiscated all my new and unused disposable batteries, but inspected the box of rechargables and let me keep those. I guess the rechargeable are harder to resell since they were obviously used. I had no problems with any batteries in my carry-on on the way TO Coz.

Next question, with the recent event in NYC I understand domestic security at the airport has increased (my wife came down yesterday and commented on it). Has anyone traveled out of CZM or CUN in the last couple days? If so is there extra screening or security that requires extra time on departure?

Just came back Saturday, the only difference I noticed was an agent was waiting at the arrival point in Houston Hobby and checked our passport and asked each family traveling together about:
1. Does you luggage belong to you?
2. Then ran through the typical declarations questions, produce, tobacco, alcohol, cash, etc.
Took less than 20 seconds once you got there.

Only other delay was in leaving OKC where the X-ray agent had never seen dive computers before (she had just transferred from Alaska) so my carryon backpack got pulled for "training" purposes. There were 2 Oceanic Pro Plus computers with regs and a Mares Puck backup. Still left iPads and cell phones in the bag and had no issues. The amount of scrutiny given on the first look and call for assistance had me briefly terrified that maybe some ammunition got into the bag somehow. I married a woman that actually believes the "get to the airport 2 hours in advance" rule so we had at least an hour to kill anyway, probably and hour and a half.

I didn't take a laptop on this trip, but I understand there may be additional rules on laptops.

No major changes I remember otherwise.

Now back to the battery thread.....

Safe travels,
Jay
