I was recently in Tonga on business and got in the water a few times. The first day we could hear the humpbacks off in the distance. The second day they were much closer. So close that we had a baby come by and check us out in about 30 ft of water. This was probably the highlight of my limited time diving.

Oh, very cool!

My husband and I were lucky enough, a number of years ago, to have a young humpback come and check us out on a pinnacle off Lanai. Peter got a few seconds of it on video. It annoyed the stink out of the dive shop operator, who told us he had over 3,000 dives on Maui, and had never seen a whale underwater :)
