the mrs and i thoroughly enjoyed oursleves for 10 days in palau with a stay on the agressor (what a crew!) and i thought i would link my photo gallery. i can't thank doug sloss enough for the insight and guidance he provided me for using a camera underwater. also, noticed he got plenty of accolades, and deservedly so, in the latest scuba diving mag. now i need lots more practice. can't wait to return

Those photos are absolutely fantastic. What kind of gear are you using?
I just got back from Palau (a week on the Big Blue Explorer) and it was the first time that I used my canon digital rebel with the ikelite housing and strobes. Some photos came out well but getting the light right was tricky.

I'm using a canon eos300 (old digital rebel) in the aquatica housing, with a pair of inon z200 strobes. Most of those photos were shot with the canon 10-22 WA lens. What a beautiful corner of the world 'eh?

I'm using the same camera with the Ikelite housing and ikelite DS150 strobes. The main problem I had was that the gear was so heavy and at least 2 lbs negatively boyant. Do you have that problem at all? Some people have suggested I wrap foam around the strobes but I'm not sure where to get the right kind of foam that will withstand pressure at 100'.

Alexandra, there is no doubt that gear is heavy and though my strobes are lighter than yours, the aquatica housing with inon strobes is ever so slightly negatively buoyant. once in the water, i really like my gear and have gotten pretty used to using it which makes all the difference. it is great for what it is: a beginner slr system that i can use to learn the basics of the underwater photography. i will most likely continue using this system until there is a canon 30d or perhaps even the 40d. still, the long hikes for some shore dives (north monastery beach in carmel) with that camera gear and a pair of fins can get awkward and exhausting when the sun is shinning bright.

OMG! Those pictures brought tears to my eyes, especially the Napoleon Wrasse. I was there a few years ago diving Blue Corner and got swept up over the ridge, lost my regulator and have a very scary moment there. I thought I was going to loose my life but this Napoleon came up beside me and graced his presents to calm my nerves. That was the best dive in my entire life. Thanks for sharing the photos

lee3,

thanks, those are some really great UW photos! I can't wait to get back in/under the water in Fiji in 3 weeks.

amadeus00,

How did you lose your regulator, and how did you get it back? I'm still a newbie and curious. Thanks

amadeus00,

During the dive, I had bitten thru my mouth piece. The rubber part that you actually bite down on. I could still hold it in with just my lips. When I got washed over, the regulator fell out of my mouth. I was shooting up from 90' to 40' in an instant. I had no choice but to duck my head down and grab hold of something. Once I did that, I reached around and found my regulator. I was dying for air and was pretty freaked out. But then comes that Wrasse.

From then on, I got myself a SeaCure mouth piece. Best thing since sliced bread.
