I heard about this recall on the news today, but it looks like you beat me to posting it.

I get election results earlier too!

WASHINGTON (AP) - A California company is recalling about 24,700 pieces of scuba diving equipment that could leak air, possibly causing divers to drown.

Oceanic USA, of San Leandro, has received six reports of air leaks, along with either noise or vibration, from their Oceanic CDX first stage regulators, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (news - web sites). No injuries have been reported.

CDX regulators included in the recall have serial numbers 9200001 through 9205622, 9800013 through 9801711, 0200001 through 0213294, 0D0001 through 0D3046, and 9D0001 through 9D3273. They were sold with second stage regulators: Alpha 7, Delta 3, Gamma 2 and Zeta.

Authorized dealers sold the equipment worldwide from May 1999 through October 2002.

The commission advises consumers to immediately stop using the equipment and take them to an authorized Oceanic dealer for a free repair. The company can be reached at 1-866-723-2642 weekdays from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. EST.

squidgirlie once bubbled...
Hi everybody--my mom just called me ("honey--do you have this scuba piece?") about this article so I thought I'd pass it on (if it isn't posted here already). If you need more info, call Oceanic USA at 1-866-723-2642.

squidgirlie - that's hilarious. I got the same phone call (well, email actually) from my mom. She thinks I'm trying to kill myself diving already, this was the last thing I needed! =)

For those that have the affected regulators, where will they be returned? The LDS or the online vendor?

I'm not sure...I think it would be best to contact Oceanic. I think, in this case, it is actually good to have purchased your reg from an authorized rep as they usually will handle the exchanges on recalls. But, that is IMHO as it is. Give the manufacturer a call, or if its easier to do, call the place you purchased them from.

I took mine to the nearest LDS that carried Oceanic stuff (not even the same shop that sold it to me, BTW).

They cheerfully installed the recall kit for free.
